June 5, 2024

DORCHESTER, MA – A routine response to a Shot Spotter activation led to the recovery of a firearm and the arrest of a Dorchester man, according to the Boston Police Department.

Late Tuesday evening, officers from District B-3 were dispatched to 140 Centre St in Dorchester following a Shot Spotter alert. During their response, officers noted a Kia Optima speeding away from the direction of the alert. The vehicle was observed ignoring a stop sign and driving recklessly.

Police stopped the vehicle after a brief pursuit and identified the driver as 32-year-old Patrick Ricketts of Dorchester. A check revealed Ricketts was driving without a license and had previous convictions related to illegal firearm possession. During the stop, officers discovered a Glock 19 Gen 5 9mm semi-automatic pistol with a high-capacity magazine on the front passenger floorboard. The magazine was fully loaded with 16 rounds, and an additional round was chambered.

Ricketts was arrested at the scene and is facing charges related to the firearm possession. The Boston Police continue to investigate the incident, and further details will be provided as the investigation progresses.
