Firefighters Battle Stubborn Blaze in D.C. Two-Story Building

August 27, 2024

WASHINGTON, D.C. — DC Fire and EMS crews fought a challenging fire in Northeast D.C. on Monday afternoon, which broke out just before 3 p.m. in a two-story building on the 2500 block of Bladensburg Road NE.

Upon arrival, firefighters encountered flames in the basement and first floor. The intensity of the basement fire led crews to withdraw from the structure and deploy a cellar pipe for safer firefighting. Additional units, including two engines and another truck, were called in for support.

As the fire eventually broke through to the first floor, crews shifted to an exterior defensive attack. By 4:40 p.m., large water streams were being used from outside the building. Firefighters also breached the basement walls, allowing them to apply water directly to the flames in the lower level.

One person was evaluated at the scene by EMS but declined further treatment. The fire remains under investigation.
