TENTH DISTRICT, Md. — A stranded deer was safely rescued from an icy surface on Monday by the Tenth District Volunteer Fire Department, according to a statement released on social media by the department.

Firefighters were called to assist after reports of the animal being stuck on the ice. The department’s entry team carried out the rescue while a standby team remained onshore to ensure safety.

The deer was successfully removed from the ice and handed over to the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, officials said.

The department thanked its 911 Communications Center partners for providing welfare checks during the rescue operation.

“This type of incident should serve as a reminder that humans should not be on the ice,” the department stated, citing safety risks such as ice failure.
