DOWNE TOWNSHIP, N.J. — Firefighters are working to contain a wildfire that has spread to 120 acres in Downe Township, Cumberland County. The New Jersey Forest Fire Service reported Friday that the blaze, which started on Halloween near Railroad Avenue, is 60% contained and is projected to reach a final size of approximately 140 acres.
No structures are currently threatened, and no evacuations have been ordered, according to officials. The fire has not put any homes or buildings in danger, allowing crews to focus on containment efforts without the need to protect nearby properties.
Railroad Avenue remains closed between Dividing Creek Road and Ackley Road as firefighters continue to work in the area. The Forest Fire Service has deployed fire engines, bulldozers, and ground crews to help bring the fire under control. The cause of the wildfire is still under investigation.
The New Jersey Forest Fire Service has scheduled the next update for 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 2.
