Flood Watch Issued for Central New Jersey

PRINCETON, NJ — The Princeton NJ Police Department has issued a flood watch effective from Wednesday afternoon through late Wednesday night due to the potential for flooding caused by excessive rainfall. The alert encompasses multiple areas across central, northern, and southern New Jersey.

Affected areas include Eastern Monmouth, Mercer, Western Monmouth in central New Jersey, Middlesex, Morris, and Somerset in northern New Jersey, and Coastal Ocean, Northwestern Burlington, Ocean, and Southeastern Burlington in southern New Jersey. The watch is in response to anticipated heavy rainfall expected to start Wednesday afternoon and continue into the night.

The expected 1.5 to 2.5 inches of rain, coupled with already wet conditions and elevated creeks and streams, may lead to flooding. Vulnerable areas include poor drainage and urban locations, where creeks and streams may rise beyond their banks. Residents are advised to stay informed and prepare for potential flooding impacts. Further details and safety information can be found at the National Weather Service’s flood safety page: http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood.
