Florida mother arrested for beating daughter with metal guitar

MIAMI, FL — A Miami woman was arrested Monday after allegedly assaulting her daughter with a metal guitar and a broomstick during a violent altercation, police said.

Sayda Orellana Castellanos, 52, was charged with aggravated battery and child abuse with great bodily harm following an investigation into the incident at a home in the city’s Little Havana neighborhood. Authorities responded around 5 p.m. after receiving reports of domestic violence.

According to an arrest affidavit, Orellana Castellanos became angry after waiting more than 10 minutes outside her daughter’s school, later learning the girl had been speaking with boys. On the way home, the two argued, and the mother allegedly berated her daughter with insults.

After arriving home, the girl retreated to her bedroom, but Orellana Castellanos allegedly followed, escalating the confrontation. She is accused of dragging her daughter by the hair, striking her repeatedly, and then hitting her multiple times with a metal guitar. The affidavit states that she then grabbed a broomstick and continued the attack until the stick broke.

Orellana Castellanos was taken into custody, and the extent of the victim’s injuries has not been disclosed.
