Food Delivery Driver Carjacked on Moped in Newark

The Newark Department of Public Safety is seeking help from the public in identifying and locating a suspect involved in a recent carjacking incident. Public Safety Director Fritz G. Fragé made the appeal following the violent theft of a moped from a food delivery worker.

The crime occurred on the evening of July 19, 2024, at approximately 9:30 p.m., near an apartment building located on the 900 block of Broad Street. According to the report, as the delivery worker parked his red 2023 Jiajue Moped in the parking lot to deliver a food order, he was struck from behind in the head by the assailant. The attack rendered him unconscious, allowing the suspect to flee with the vehicle.

The suspect was last seen driving the stolen moped westbound on West Kinney Street and then onto Vine Street. The Newark Police are urging anyone with information about the incident or the whereabouts of the suspect to come forward to assist in the investigation and ensure community safety.
