BOSTON, Mass. — The Boston Police Department on Sunday issued a community alert following a series of robberies targeting food delivery drivers in the neighborhoods of Mattapan and Hyde Park.
Police said multiple incidents have been reported over the past month in which drivers were confronted by individuals and robbed during food drop-offs. In some cases, suspects used threats or displayed weapons before taking food deliveries from the victims.
The alert applies to drivers working for both app-based platforms and independent delivery services. The department has not disclosed how many robberies have occurred but noted a recent increase in frequency.
Authorities are urging drivers to take precautions while on duty, especially when working at night or in unfamiliar areas. “Always be aware of your surroundings,” the department advised in a list of safety tips released with the alert.
BPD also encouraged drivers to verify delivery addresses, avoid carrying cash, and share their location in real time with friends or family when possible.
Investigation ongoing as police seek tips
The Boston Police Department said it is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the reported robberies. No suspects or arrests have been announced at this time.
