Toms River’s Wallach’s a Great Locally Owned Alternative to the Mega Supermarkets

TOMS RIVER, NJ – For many in Toms River, it’s known as “the egg store”, but over the years, the ninety-year-old business on Route 9, much has changed. At the same time, little has changed. Known historically for their fresh eggs, Wallach’s Deli and Farm Market has evolved into an all-encompassing one-stop-shop for groceries as a getaway from the big box supermarkets.

You might think the opening of a super Shoprite just down the road a few years ago would hurt the business, but loyal customers, customer service, and personal touch have allowed Wallach’s to survive the test of time, even as the community around them evolves.

Wallach’s was doing “farm to table” long before the phrase existed in the mainstream. They source their produce and eggs from local New Jersey farmers.

In the 90 years since opening, Wallach’s has also evolved and provides catering services, premade meals, a full-service deli, vegetable stand, and artisan products.

Although the business has evolved, the store itself remains nearly the same as it has for decades inside. Wallach’s also provides seasonal items such as flowers, gifts baskets, and more.

If you haven’t been to Wallach’s in a while because of the pandemic grind, this spring is a great time to get out and support an incredible locally-owned family business that has been a staple in our community for generations.
