HOWELL, N.J. – A former Stop & Shop on Route 9 in Howell Township is getting a new life as a massive kosher supermarket, complete with free valet parking, online shopping and same-day delivery.
Moisha’s Supermarket is preparing to open at the Lanes Mill Marketplace at 4861 Route 9, occupying the approximately 66,441-square-foot space previously used by Stop & Shop. The location puts the Brooklyn-based kosher grocer just minutes from neighboring Lakewood and its large Orthodox Jewish community.
The supermarket is expected to open later this year, bringing another major grocery option to the busy Route 9 corridor. Moisha’s says its stores carry everything from fresh meat and fish to produce, groceries and other kosher foods.
Moisha’s Taking Over Former Howell Stop & Shop
The supermarket is moving into a highly visible location along one of northern Ocean County and southern Monmouth County’s busiest commercial corridors.
Stop & Shop previously operated from the large anchor space at Lanes Mill Marketplace before closing the location.
For Moisha’s, the building provides the space needed to bring its large-format kosher grocery operation to New Jersey while placing the company close to Lakewood and the expanding Orthodox communities in Howell and surrounding municipalities.
At more than 66,000 square feet, the Howell location will be considerably larger than a typical neighborhood kosher market.
Moisha’s describes itself as offering an “extensive array of kosher products” covering a broad range of tastes and shopping needs.
“From fresh meats and fish to a wide selection of grocery items, we’re your trusted destination for a satisfying and inclusive shopping experience,” the company says.
The supermarket traces its roots to Brooklyn, where it has established locations serving the Orthodox Jewish communities in Borough Park and Flatbush.
Free Valet Parking Coming to Route 9 Supermarket
The company is also known for its valet parking, but at this time, it has not been announced whether or not the Howell location will feature the service.
Moisha’s advertises complimentary valet parking as part of its supermarket experience, allowing customers to turn over their vehicles to an attendant rather than search for a parking space.

The service could be particularly useful during busy shopping periods, especially before Jewish holidays and Shabbat, when kosher supermarkets can experience heavy customer traffic.

Shoppers can browse produce, pantry items and other groceries online, while the company also advertises same-day delivery.
Those services would put the Howell store in competition not only with traditional supermarkets but with the growing number of large kosher grocery stores serving Lakewood and surrounding communities.
Continued Growth Around Lakewood
The arrival of another large kosher supermarket also reflects the changing retail market surrounding Lakewood.
Orthodox Jewish families have increasingly moved into Howell, Jackson, Toms River and other communities surrounding Lakewood, creating additional demand for kosher groceries and businesses serving the community.
The former Stop & Shop location offers Moisha’s immediate access to Route 9 and places the supermarket along the heavily traveled corridor connecting Howell and Lakewood.
Its size could also make the new location one of the larger dedicated kosher supermarkets in the region.
An exact opening date has not yet been announced, but the supermarket is expected to open later this year.
For Howell shoppers, the project means a large retail space left behind by Stop & Shop will soon be occupied again — this time by a supermarket bringing a distinctly different grocery operation to Route 9.
