NEWARK, NJ – A former Hudson County Sheriff’s Officer has admitted his role in a conspiracy to make false statements in connection with a fraudulent short sale, as announced by U.S. Attorney Philip R. Sellinger on Tuesday.
Osbado Hernandez, 54, of Avenel, New Jersey, pleaded guilty to a single count of conspiracy to make false statements to discharge a loan, before U.S. District Judge Michael A. Shipp in Trenton federal court on Monday.
Between September and December 2015, Hernandez conspired to make false statements to a bank to discharge the mortgage on his Keansburg, New Jersey, property. Hernandez’s false statements led to the bank discharging over $98,000 of his debt. The charge carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000. Hernandez’s sentencing is scheduled for October 4, 2023.
