Frederick man arrested for carrying replica firearm at community event in Baker Park

FREDERICK, Md. — Frederick Police arrested a man on Halloween for carrying a replica firearm in a public park, a violation of a recently enacted city ordinance. The incident occurred during a community event in Baker Park, where officers on patrol noticed an individual carrying what appeared to be a firearm.

Upon closer inspection, officers identified the weapon as a Byrna LE pellet gun, which is designed to resemble a firearm but lacks the markings that would distinguish it as a non-lethal weapon. Police said the weapon falls under Frederick City Code 33.2, which prohibits carrying imitation firearms, including pellet guns, in public places.

The suspect, identified as David Michael Beers, was detained after officers discovered a second loaded Byrna pellet gun and additional magazines in his vehicle. Beers was subsequently arrested and is currently being held without bond.

The Frederick Police Department emphasized the importance of compliance with city regulations on imitation and replica firearms to maintain public safety.
