ANNAPOLIS, Md. — The Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has announced an immediate statewide ban on open air burning in response to persistent dry conditions that have heightened wildfire risks across Maryland. The ban, effective November 1, applies to all counties and will remain in place until sufficient rainfall reduces the fire danger.

Officials say the state has experienced an above-average number of wildfires recently, and current conditions are expected to persist. The Maryland Forest Service will monitor precipitation levels to determine when it is safe to lift the ban.
