TRENTON, N.J. – Friday morning commuters are dealing with a full highway closure in Trenton and lengthy delays heading into New York City.
The most significant closure was reported on US 1 Business southbound at US 206 in Trenton, where all lanes were closed for a crash investigation as of 7:56 a.m. Elsewhere, crashes were reported on the New Jersey Turnpike in Linden and I-95 in Fort Lee, although lanes remained open at both locations.
Trenton Crash Investigation Closes US 1 Business
The crash investigation in Trenton was reported shortly before 8 a.m., with all southbound lanes of US 1 Business closed at US 206.
Drivers approaching the area should expect delays while the investigation continues. The 511NJ report did not provide details about the crash, including whether anyone was injured or when the roadway would reopen.
On NJ 29, northbound traffic was also experiencing delays from north of I-295 in Hamilton Township to South Warren Street in Trenton. All lanes remained open there.
A separate crash was reported at 8:14 a.m. on the New Jersey Turnpike inside the entrance to Interchange 13 for I-278 and the Goethals Bridge in Linden. All lanes remained open.
Another crash was reported in the northbound express lanes of the Turnpike/I-95 north of Exit 72A near NJ 4 in Fort Lee. That crash was reported at 7:48 a.m., with all lanes open.
Lincoln Tunnel, Holland Tunnel and GWB Delays Build
Drivers heading into Manhattan faced some of the morning’s longest delays at the Hudson River crossings.
At the Lincoln Tunnel, the travel time from New Jersey Turnpike Exit 16E to the New York side was approximately 40 minutes as of 8:20 a.m. Delays were reported through both the south and center tunnels, although lanes remained open.
The George Washington Bridge was also backed up. The lower level had an estimated 30-minute trip from I-95 at I-80 to the Alexander Hamilton Bridge, while the upper level was running approximately 40 to 45 minutes.
At the Holland Tunnel, drivers faced an estimated 40-minute trip to New York from both New Jersey Turnpike Exit 14C and NJ 139 at Tonnelle Circle as of 7:57 a.m.
Delays Reported Across North and Central Jersey
Stop-and-go traffic was reported on the Garden State Parkway southbound at Exit 130B-A for US 1 in Woodbridge Township. All lanes remained open.
NJ 208 southbound was backed up between south of Goffle Road in Hawthorne and south of Maple Avenue in Fair Lawn. NJ 4 eastbound was also delayed from west of Kinderkamack Road in River Edge to Queen Anne Road in Teaneck.
Volume was responsible for a one-mile delay on the New Jersey Turnpike Eastern Spur northbound between the Southern Mixing Bowl and south of Interchange 15E for US 1&9 in Newark.
