Fugitive Silver Spring Teen Arrested at Dulles Airport for Memorial Day Weekend Double Murder

August 26, 2024

GAITHERSBURG, Md. — A 15-year-old Silver Spring resident has been arrested and charged with two counts of second-degree murder following a double homicide that took place over Memorial Day weekend.

The suspect, Onyx Santana Austin, was taken into custody on Monday, August 26, 2024, at Dulles International Airport after returning to the United States.

Austin was identified as a suspect in the fatal shootings of D’Andre Wint and Quincy Johnson, both 20 years old, on May 26, 2024, at Nolte Local Park. The Montgomery County Department of Police – Major Crimes Division conducted an extensive investigation, ultimately gathering sufficient evidence to link Austin to the crime.

Detectives secured a warrant for Austin’s arrest on August 26, the same day he was apprehended by U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers upon re-entry into the country. Authorities believe that Austin fled the United States shortly after the shootings and had been outside the country during the course of the investigation.

Austin, who is being charged as an adult, is currently awaiting extradition to Montgomery County, where he will face trial for the murders of Wint and Johnson.

The Montgomery County Police Department has not yet released further details regarding the motive or the events leading up to the shootings. The investigation remains active as authorities continue to piece together the circumstances surrounding the double homicide.
