German National Sentenced to State Prison for Sexual Assault of Minor in Lancaster County

Lancaster, PA — Erik Weidling, a 21-year-old from Enger, Germany, has been sentenced to between four and a half and ten years in state prison after pleading guilty to multiple charges related to the sexual assault of a 15-year-old girl in East Donegal Township. The sentencing was handed down by Judge Dennis Reinaker last Wednesday, following Weidling’s guilty plea on October 15, 2024, to 16 offenses.

The charges included involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, unlawful contact with a minor, statutory sexual assault, aggravated indecent assault, corruption of minors, and criminal use of a communication facility. The incidents took place in late February and early March of 2024 at the victim’s residence.

In court, Weidling’s attorney argued that despite the illegality of the relationship, it was consensual, highlighting the relatively small age gap between Weidling and the victim. However, Assistant District Attorney Fritz Haverstick refuted this, describing the case not as one of “star-crossed lovers” but as a calculated act by Weidling to engage sexually with a minor. Haverstick emphasized that Weidling was fully aware of the victim’s age, had misrepresented his own age as 17, and even created a fake German ID to support his deception.

Haverstick further stated that Weidling was aggressive during the encounters, which resulted in visible injuries to the victim. When confronted by the victim’s mother, Weidling continued his deception about his age.

During the sentencing, Weidling claimed he was unaware that his actions were illegal in the U.S., stating he would not have traveled if he had known. He admitted his actions were wrong and expressed a desire to serve his sentence and return to Germany.

Henry Weidling, Erik’s father, spoke through an interpreter in court, sharing insights into his son’s upbringing and pleading for leniency so that Erik could return to his family in Germany. He emphasized the family’s support for Erik and their wish to “embrace their son again.”
