TOMS RIVER, N.J. — Professional players from Gotham FC will visit Toms River Tuesday afternoon to participate in a TOPSoccer clinic for athletes with physical and cognitive challenges at the RWJBarnabas Health Field of Dreams.
The clinic begins at 4 p.m. at the inclusive recreation complex located at 1505 North Bay Avenue. About 20 athletes ages 13 and older with special health care needs are expected to take part alongside coaches and Gotham FC players.
Adaptive soccer program promotes inclusion
The clinic will be led by New Jersey Youth Soccer as part of its TOPSoccer program, an initiative designed to provide players with mental or physical disabilities the opportunity to enjoy soccer in a supportive and welcoming environment.
Rick Meana, director of coaching for New Jersey Youth Soccer, will oversee the session with assistance from Gotham FC players, who are scheduled to interact with participants throughout the event.
Field of Dreams continues inclusive mission
The RWJBarnabas Health Field of Dreams has become a destination for adaptive sports and recreation, offering accessible facilities that allow children and adults of all abilities to participate in recreational activities.
Tuesday’s clinic is expected to showcase the growing partnership between professional sports organizations and community programs focused on expanding athletic opportunities for individuals with special health care needs.
