Government Records Council Launches New Online OPRA Request Form Portal

TRENTON, N.J. – The Government Records Council (GRC) has introduced a new online portal for the Open Public Records Act (OPRA) request form, the agency announced on Wednesday. The portal, now available on the GRC website, allows government agencies across New Jersey to adopt the council’s updated OPRA request form, tailored to include specific agency contact information.

As of September 3, 2024, under P.L. 2024, c. 16, all public agencies in New Jersey are required to adopt the GRC’s standardized OPRA request form. The updated form includes new requirements such as certifiable statements addressing commercial use and pending litigation, as well as revised exemptions for records access.

Agencies can visit the GRC website to access the new form at Government Records Council (GRC) | Adoptable OPRA Request Form (nj.gov).

The GRC continues to play a key role in promoting transparency within New Jersey government by adjudicating access complaints and providing public education through its training programs and inquiry hotline. Since its establishment in 2001, the GRC has worked to ensure that OPRA is effectively applied across the state.
