Grandfather killed in Thanksgiving Day dispute over loud music

LAUDERDALE LAKES, Fla. — A 72-year-old grandfather was shot and killed on Thanksgiving Day during a dispute with a neighbor over loud music, according to the Broward County Sheriff’s Office.

Hureleyon McLean was fatally shot around 3:30 p.m. Thursday outside a residence on Somerset Drive, about 32 miles north of Miami. Authorities said deputies responding to reports of shots fired found McLean suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The alleged shooter, whose name has not been released, was detained at the scene and cooperated with detectives, claiming self-defense. Broward County authorities said the case will be presented to the State Attorney’s Office to determine whether criminal charges will be filed.

McLean’s wife, Rose McLean, described the incident to local media, explaining that her husband had been playing music during their Thanksgiving celebration when the neighbor objected. “He was playing his music, and the guy said he was playing it too loud,” she told NBC affiliate WTVJ. “So my husband, he went down to him. … Then I heard a gunshot.”

The investigation is ongoing, as authorities continue to gather evidence and interview witnesses.
