Greenwood ManArrested for Felony Offenses After Car Crash in Delmar

September 25, 2024

Delmar, DE – Delaware State Police apprehended Clifford David, 33, from Greenwood, Delaware, in connection with multiple felony charges following a significant vehicle crash.

Authorities received reports on Tuesday at approximately 9:49 p.m. concerning David, who had earlier escaped from a Sussex Community Corrections work crew.

Responding to a residence on the 16000 block of Whitesville Road, police learned that David fled with a 25-year-old woman and three children, ages 1, 2, and 7, in a Chevrolet Silverado—later identified as stolen from Harrington. Witness accounts indicated David attempted to remove the children from the vehicle during the escape; a witness managed to safely retrieve the 7-year-old child. David crashed the Silverado on August Road near Whitesville Road shortly thereafter.

Preliminary investigations revealed that David was driving at high speed and recklessly southbound on August Road. He could not manage a curve, leading the vehicle into a ditch where it overturned, ejecting the unrestrained woman and two unrestrained children. All three sustained severe injuries and were transported to hospitals. David fled the scene on foot
