Guess Who’s Not Getting a Job in Trump’s Cabinet… Again: Chris Christie

Chris Christie might want to start looking into hobbies that don’t involve politics—or Donald Trump—because once again, it seems his Cabinet dreams have gone poof. The former New Jersey governor and ex-Trump confidant has been trying to shake his complicated history with the former president, but let’s be honest: this relationship has more drama than a Real Housewives of New Jersey reunion.

Despite his early loyalty to Trump in 2016—remember when Christie stood behind Trump at that press conference looking like he regretted all his life choices?—their bromance soured quicker than leftover pork roll. Christie has since become one of Trump’s most vocal Republican critics, particularly after the events of January 6th, and his barbs haven’t exactly gone unnoticed. Trump’s nickname for him? “Sloppy Chris.” (Savage? Yes. Presidential? Eh.)

Now, as Trump begins building his cabinet and confidential staff, it’s safe to say Christie won’t be asked to helm anything except maybe a “Never Trump” podcast or as the head janitor at the White House.

He’s been positioning himself as the tough-love truth-teller the GOP needs, calling out Trump’s divisive rhetoric and legal troubles. But let’s be real: standing up to Trump in today’s Republican Party is like showing up to a pool party and saying, “Actually, I hate swimming.”

Christie’s Cabinet snub isn’t new. Back in 2016, after playing a key role in Trump’s transition team, Christie was unceremoniously sidelined. Rumor has it Jared Kushner had a hand in it, holding a grudge over Christie’s role in prosecuting Kushner’s father years earlier. Because apparently, in Trump World, revenge isn’t just a dish best served cold—it’s the only dish.

While Christie knows not to comment on his chances in a second Trump administration (or lack thereof), his recent jabs at the former president suggest he’s not holding his breath.

Instead, he’s been doubling down on the rhetoric against Trump..

So, will Chris Christie ever get his seat at the Cabinet table? At this point, it’s about as likely as New Jersey fully embracing a ban on jughandles. Fat chance.

But hey, at least he’ll always have his time as governor—and maybe a New Jersey cannoli or two to console him.
