Hagerstown Home Damaged in Fire, Residents Displaced

HAGERSTOWN, MD—A significant fire occurred at a two-story single-family residence located at 19524 Portsmouth Drive, causing an estimated $30,000 in damages. The incident took place at 6:40 PM on May 1. The owner, Nathan Baker, reported the fire, which originated from the second floor bedroom closet.

The Long Meadow Volunteer Fire Company responded to the scene, deploying 67 firefighters who managed to control the fire within 12 minutes. Despite the swift response, the home suffered substantial damages, estimated at $25,000 to the structure and an additional $5,000 to contents. Thankfully, there were no injuries reported.

The smoke alarms in the home were activated, contributing to the timely evacuation and response. However, the house did not have a fire sprinkler system installed. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Following the incident, the displaced residents have been assisted by the American Red Cross. Local authorities continue to investigate the fire and have not reported any arrests related to the incident.
