Bel Air, MD – An investigation was launched early Wednesday morning following a threat circulated on Snapchat referencing a school shooting. Harford County deputies were alerted to the threat at 2:20 AM and immediately began investigating.

Deputies tracked the source of the threat to a public high school student. Evidence confirmed the student had made the threat, leading to charges for making threats to commit an act of mass violence.

Last week, the Sheriff’s Office investigated 11 school violence threats. Each threat is promptly examined to verify its credibility and ensure student safety.

Due to Maryland law, details about the charged student cannot be disclosed to the public or the school. The Harford County Sheriff’s Office aims to keep the community informed while adhering to juvenile privacy laws.
