Hey New Jersey, Today is National Dog Day!

Hey New Jersey Today is National Dog Day

Today marks National Dog Day, an event celebrated annually on August 26 to honor man’s best friend and raise awareness about the importance of adoption. New Jersey animal shelters are at the forefront of this initiative, urging residents to consider adopting a pet instead of buying one.

Adoption offers a lifeline to dogs in shelters who are waiting for a second chance at life. According to recent statistics, there are nearly 6.5 million animals entering U.S. shelters every year, and among these, about 1.5 million are euthanized due to lack of space or resources. In New Jersey, several animal shelters have been working tirelessly to lower these numbers by facilitating dog adoptions.

Adoption not only saves the life of the dog but also frees up shelter space for another animal in need. In addition, adopted dogs are often vaccinated, spayed, or neutered, which are essential steps in responsible pet care.

New Jersey residents are encouraged to visit their local animal shelters where they can meet dogs of all breeds, sizes, and ages in need of a loving home. Today, several shelters across the state are hosting special adoption events, offering reduced fees and educational resources for potential pet owners.

By adopting a pet, individuals do not just gain a loyal companion but also contribute to a broader social cause. This National Dog Day, the focus is on making a tangible difference in the lives of dogs and the people who love them.

For more information on adoption and to find a shelter near you, visit the New Jersey Animal Rescue website or call your local shelter.
