High school brawl sends one to hospital in Dorchester County

Student taken into custody after multiple altercations erupt at Cambridge-South Dorchester High School

CAMBRIDGE, MD — A series of student altercations at Cambridge-South Dorchester High School on Monday afternoon led to the hospitalization of one student and the arrest of another, according to a press release issued by the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office.

The incidents began around 12:10 p.m. on Monday, November 10, when the School Resource Deputy assigned to the high school was alerted to a disturbance involving students. Additional deputies were called in after multiple, unrelated altercations broke out across different areas of the school in a short period of time.

During the investigation, deputies confirmed that one of the incidents involved a student assaulting another during class. Emergency Medical Services responded and transported the injured student to TidalHealth Peninsula Regional Medical Center for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

The student responsible for the assault was taken into custody, processed under juvenile procedures, and later released to a parent.

The investigation into the series of incidents remains ongoing. School officials and deputies have not disclosed further details regarding the total number of students involved or whether disciplinary measures are being pursued by the school system.
