Highway sign to be dedicated in honor of fallen Jackson police officer

JACKSON, N.J. — A highway in Jackson Township will be dedicated in honor of Officer Robert “Robbie” Ventura, who died in the line of duty on March 18, 2001.

The dedication ceremony is scheduled for March 18, at 10 a.m. at the Jackson Justice Complex, located at 102 Jackson Drive. The event will include the unveiling of a new highway sign bearing Ventura’s name in recognition of his service.

The ceremony invites members of the community to join in remembering Ventura, who served with the Jackson Police Department under badge number 213.

“Patrolman Robert Ventura was killed in an accident while on duty. He was on routine patrol when another vehicle made a left hand turn in front of his patrol car. He swerved to avoid a collision, but struck an oncoming vehicle head-on. The driver that turned in front of him was arrested and charged with several moving violations,” according to ODMP.org. “Patrolman Ventura had served with the Jackson Township Police Department for two years, and is survived by his wife, daughter, and son.”
