NEWARK, N.J. – On Thursday, Yezenia Castillo, a 46-year-old woman from Hoboken, New Jersey, pleaded guilty to stealing over $1.5 million from over 100 victims, mainly non-profit organizations, private schools, and religious institutions throughout New Jersey.
Castillo falsely claimed to be a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) offering financial and accounting services but never provided the promised services.
She used various means to steal from clients, including collecting fees for services never rendered and transferring client funds without authorization. Castillo pleaded guilty before U.S District Judge Susan D. Wigenton to an information charging her with one count each of wire fraud and tax evasion. Sentencing is scheduled for August 7, 2023.
