TINTON FALLS, NJ – Emergency crews from across Monmouth County came together early Monday morning to rescue a horse trapped in a narrow gulley, in an operation that required precision teamwork and specialized equipment.
Around dawn on January 8, Tinton Falls, Fire District 36 received a request for assistance after reports of a horse unable to get up from a small embankment. Chiefs, along with Rescue 2-85 and Rescue 1-86, responded to the scene where responders found the animal wedged and struggling to stand.
Using grip-hoists, infinity loops, and a system of ropes, the rescue crews carefully pulled the horse to safety. Once freed, the animal was flipped onto its stronger posterior side—allowing it to regain footing on its own. A veterinarian on site confirmed that the horse was unharmed and is expected to make a full recovery.

Officials credited the coordinated effort of multiple agencies for the successful rescue. Special recognition was given to the Asbury Park Fire Department’s Battalion Chief of Special Operations 83-5-68 for technical guidance throughout the recovery.
Also assisting at the scene were the Tinton Falls Police Department, Wall Township Police, Monmouth County SPCA, Monmouth County Hazmat, and Tinton Falls Public Works.
