HOUSTON, TX – Houston police are investigating the fatal crash that occurred at 4100 South Loop West (South Interstate Highway 610 West) about 10:35 a.m. today. The identity of the deceased male, 62, is pending notification to family members by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences. HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant L. Ross and Officer M. Lares reported: The victim was driving a white Ford Transit van eastbound on the South Loop when he failed to maintain a single lane and struck a trailer connected to a blue Peterbilt tractor. The driver of the tractor-trailer pulled to the shoulder and came to a stop. The van pulled behind the trailer, struck it a second time and then came to a stop on the shoulder. The driver of the van was found unconscious and transported to Memorial Hermann – Texas Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. It is believed he may have suffered a medical episode prior to the crash and his cause of death is pending an autopsy.
