Howard County man wins $68,281 lottery jackpot, plans to invest winnings

COLUMBIA, Md. — A Howard County resident, who predicted a big Lottery win in 2024, claimed a $68,281 progressive jackpot prize on a FAST PLAY SLINGO® ticket. The anonymous winner, known as “Mr. Money Monk,” bought the lucky $3 ticket at a Wegmans in Columbia and didn’t realize his fortune until two days later.

According to Lottery officials, the winner scanned the ticket, along with some others, at a nearby Shell station. When he saw the message directing him to Lottery headquarters, he knew he had hit the jackpot.

Prior to this win, the player said his largest prize was a year’s supply of free chicken from a food chain. He believes this win marks a significant moment in his journey of personal transformation, which began in 2019 after the death of his dog and a period of deep depression.

In 2023, “Mr. Money Monk” made significant life changes, focusing on health and fitness, which he documents daily, and increasing his Lottery play to improve his odds of a major win. When he arrived to claim his prize, he wore a monk’s robe, symbolizing his dedication and resilience.

The winner plans to use the prize money to boost his savings and make investments. Wegmans, located at 8855 McGaw Road in Columbia, will receive a $682 bonus for selling the progressive jackpot-winning ticket.

The SLINGO game, which launched in 2023, still has 11 out of 15 progressive jackpot prizes remaining. The jackpot begins at $14,000 and increases with each ticket sale until the next winning ticket is sold.
