HOWELL, N.J. – A Howell resident suffered burns Thursday evening after his cellphone exploded while he was holding it, authorities said. The incident occurred shortly before 5 p.m. inside the man’s home. It remains unclear whether the phone was being charged at the time of the explosion.
The blast caused burns to the man’s hand and also scorched a section of carpet in the home, officials said. Lakewood EMS responded to the scene and treated the victim for burn injuries.
