ICE arrests Brazilian national convicted of sexual assault in Connecticut

February 11, 2025

HARTFORD, CT — U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has arrested an illegal Brazilian national convicted of sexual assault and other crimes in Connecticut, officials announced.

Emerson Eduardo Ferreira, 52, was taken into custody on Jan. 24 in Brooklyn, Connecticut, by ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) officers following his release from state custody.

“Emerson Eduardo Ferreira violated the terms of his lawful admission into the United States and brutally victimized a Connecticut resident,” said ERO Boston acting Field Office Director Patricia H. Hyde. “He has shown a blatant disregard for the sanctity of our laws and the safety of our people.”

Ferreira legally entered the United States on April 27, 1999, but later violated the terms of his admission.

On Aug. 9, 2023, the Connecticut Superior Court in Bridgeport convicted Ferreira of sexual assault of a spouse or cohabitant, first-degree unlawful restraint, and two counts of violating a protective order. He was sentenced to 18 years in prison, suspended after four years, followed by ten years of probation.

ICE issued an immigration detainer for Ferreira on April 28, 2024, with the Connecticut Department of Corrections and served him with a notice to appear before a Department of Justice immigration judge following his arrest. He remains in ICE custody pending further proceedings.
