JACKSON, NJ – Mayor Jennifer L. Kuhn and the Jackson Township Council are proud to announce that Jackson Township will honor the life and legacy of Michael “Mikey” Gioia, a Jackson Township High School student who tragically passed away earlier this year, with a street dedication ceremony to honor his life and legacy.
This dedication was created in partnership with Michael’s family, who expressed their deep appreciation for the township’s continued compassion and support. Michael’s mother, Danielle Gioia, shared how much it means to their family to see the community honor his memory in such a lasting and personal way.

“Michael touched the lives of so many through his kindness, empathy, and unwavering commitment to helping others. It is our privilege to honor his legacy in a way that reflects the light he brought to his school, friends, family, and community. ‘Michael Gioia Way’ will stand as a permanent reminder of his spirit and the impact he had on all who knew him.”
Township staff, including the Department of Public Works, are preparing the installation of the dedication sign, and the Jackson Police Department will provide a presence to support safety during the ceremony. The Township will also coordinate with the Jackson School District, as many of Michael’s peers and teachers are expected to attend.

In addition to the street dedication, residents have made donations to also place a memorial bench at Jackson Township High School in his honor and a scholarship in his name—efforts that will continue his legacy of kindness, positivity, and support for mental health awareness.
Mayor Kuhn added, “We stand with the Gioia family, and we are honored to help ensure that Michael’s memory continues to inspire hope, compassion, and connection throughout Jackson Township.”
Residents are invited to attend the ceremony as we come together to remember and celebrate Michael’s life, one that was filled with kindness, compassion, and friendship to his fellow students at Jackson Township High School.
