Jersey City Man Arrested for Fatal Hit-and-Run

JERSEY CITY, NJ – Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez has announced the arrest of a 71-year-old Jersey City resident, Mohammad Ali, in connection with a fatal hit-and-run incident that occurred last October.

The incident, which took place on October 20th, resulted in the death of 85-year-old Mumtaz Chaudhry. Chaudhry was struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Fairview Avenue and Monticello Avenue in Jersey City. Responding officers found him at Fairmount Avenue and Summit Avenue, where he was pronounced deceased.

Ali faces charges of Knowingly Leaving the Scene of a Motor Vehicle Collision Resulting in Death, a second-degree crime, and Endangering an Injured Victim, a third-degree crime. He was arrested at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office in Secaucus and subsequently released pending his court appearance scheduled for February 13th.
