Jersey Shore Beach Patrol Member Sentenced for Child Sexual Assault

OCEAN CITY, NJ – Cape May County Prosecutor Jeffrey H. Sutherland revealed on Tuesday that Jonathan Howell, a 42-year-old from Marmora and a former Ocean City Beach Patrol member, has been sentenced by Superior Court Judge J. Christopher Gibson. This sentencing is a direct outcome of the allegations made in a social media post in April 2021 concerning the Ocean City Beach Patrol.

The allegations led to an extensive investigation by the Prosecutor’s Office. Howell was initially indicted on multiple charges, including 1st Degree Aggravated Sexual Assault and 2nd Degree Official Misconduct, on January 21.

He pleaded guilty to 2nd Degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child and received a sentence of four years probation. As part of his sentence, Howell is also required to forfeit any future public employment.
