Jersey Shore Mourns Loss of Beloved Seal Who Captivated Children for Decades

OINT PLEASANT BEACH, NJ – Luseal, a harbor seal who captured the hearts of the community for over 30 years, has passed away at Jenkinson’s Aquarium.

Rescued in February of 1991 from the Point Pleasant/Bay Head Canal, Luseal suffered severe wounds and visual impairments as a juvenile. At the time of her rescue, Jenkinson’s Aquarium was under construction in the same location. The aquarium offered Luseal a permanent home, given her inability to return to the wild.

Luseal became a cherished resident of the aquarium, serving as an important ambassador for her species. Her story resonated with countless visitors and contributed to the facility’s educational efforts about marine life and conservation.

The aquarium staff expressed gratitude for the opportunity to care for Luseal and are mourning her loss alongside the community.

She will be remembered for her impact on both her human caretakers and on public understanding of marine life.
