JERSEY SHORE, N.J. — Beachgoers and residents along the Jersey Shore can expect another hot summer day Tuesday, with highs reaching the lower 90s before the threat of afternoon and evening thunderstorms develops.

The National Weather Service says skies will be partly sunny through much of the day, with showers and thunderstorms becoming possible after 4 p.m. Some storms could produce brief heavy downpours.

Tuesday: Hot with late-day storms

Tuesday’s high is expected to reach 91 degrees with light west winds developing during the afternoon.

There is a 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly late in the day. Rainfall totals should remain light outside of thunderstorms, although localized heavier downpours are possible.

Tuesday night will remain mostly cloudy with a low around 69 degrees. A slight chance of thunderstorms will linger into the evening before scattered showers become possible overnight.

Wednesday: Less humid with more sunshine

Conditions improve Wednesday as any lingering morning showers taper off.

Skies will become mostly sunny with a high near 87 degrees and light north winds. Only a 20% chance of a morning shower is expected.

Wednesday night will be partly cloudy with temperatures falling to around 68 degrees. Another isolated shower or thunderstorm could develop after 2 a.m.

Thursday: Heat returns with another storm risk

Thursday will feature mostly sunny skies and a high near 89 degrees, but the chance for showers and thunderstorms increases again during the afternoon.

Forecasters expect a 30% chance of storms during the day, rising to 40% Thursday night as another round of unsettled weather moves into the region.

The best beach weather appears to be Wednesday, with slightly cooler temperatures, lower humidity, and only a minimal chance of an early shower. Those heading to the shore Tuesday or Thursday should monitor the forecast for developing afternoon thunderstorms.
