Judge Lets Convicted Sex Offender Who Nearly Killed Innocent Man Out of Jail

NEW YORK, NY – A convicted sex offender who sucker punched an innocent man in New York City this week has been set free by a judge under the city’s bail reform system. The victim suffered a fractured skull, broken jaw, and brain bleeding and is now in a coma.

Bui Van Phu, 55, was initially charged for with assault and harassment and not attempted murder, after sending his victim to the hospital where he underwent several major surgeries and is still in critical condition. Due to the severity of the injuries, the man still may not make it out of the hospital.

Van Phu sucker-punched the victim from behind, in cold blood. Then he celebrated as the victim fell limp on the sidewalk in front of him.

After media and public outcry, the Bronx District Attorney’s Office upgraded Van Phu’s charges to attempted murder and a parole violation.

“I hit someone and he’s in the hospital. I don’t know if he’s dead,” he told his parole officer, according to the complaint. “The police are looking for me.”
