Justice Department launches 10-7 task force targeting Hamas terrorists

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Justice Department has launched Joint Task Force October 7 (JTF 10-7) to prosecute those responsible for the Oct. 7, 2023, terrorist attack in Israel and to combat the ongoing threat posed by Hamas and its affiliates, officials announced Monday.

“The barbaric Hamas terrorists will not win—and there will be consequences,” said Attorney General Pamela Bondi, who established JTF 10-7 on her first day in office. The task force aims to seek justice for the victims of the attack, which killed approximately 1,200 people, including 47 U.S. citizens, and resulted in the abduction of about 250 individuals, including 8 U.S. citizens.

JTF 10-7 will focus on identifying, charging, and prosecuting the direct perpetrators of the attack, as well as those responsible for financing and supporting Hamas. It will also investigate acts of terrorism and civil rights violations linked to Hamas and its affiliated groups.

“The victims of Hamas’s decades-long violent campaign of terrorism against Israel will always have the support of the U.S. government,” said Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche, emphasizing the Justice Department’s commitment to holding Hamas supporters accountable.

The task force will be led by a senior counterterrorism prosecutor from the National Security Division (NSD) and supported by FBI agents, analysts, forensic accountants, and intelligence personnel. FBI agents will also work closely with Israel’s National Bureau of Counter Terror Finance to disrupt Hamas funding.

These efforts reinforce the U.S. government’s commitment to dismantling Hamas, prosecuting its supporters, and preventing terrorist-led antisemitism, officials said.

Key Points:

  • Joint Task Force October 7 (JTF 10-7) was established to prosecute Hamas terrorists responsible for the Oct. 7 attack in Israel.
  • The task force will target perpetrators, Hamas leadership, and financial backers supporting terrorism.
  • The FBI and Justice Department will collaborate with Israeli authorities to investigate and disrupt Hamas operations.
