Juvenile Charged in BB Gun Shooting Incident in Utica

UTICA, NY — On February 28, Utica Police responded to an incident in the 1100 block of Dudley Ave, where a male reported being shot multiple times in the face and head with a BB gun.

The altercation occurred near the intersection of Lansing St and Mohawk St, involving a group of juveniles known to the victim. During the incident, a BB gun was produced, and the victim was shot at close range.

The victim sought refuge at a location on Dudley Ave, leading to police involvement. The Utica Police Department’s Juvenile Aid Unit identified the suspect as a 16-year-old male through their investigation, which also uncovered property damage related to the incident.

On March 6, the juvenile, accompanied by his guardian, surrendered to the police and was formally charged with second-degree assault, fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, and criminal mischief. He was arraigned and released to his guardian’s care, with future court dates pending. The suspect’s identity remains confidential due to his minor status.
