Juvenile Faces Upgraded Charges in Fatal Teaneck Car Accident

Hackensack, NJ – Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella has announced the escalation of charges against a juvenile involved in a deadly motor vehicle accident in Teaneck, following a comprehensive investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Teaneck Police Department.

The tragic incident, which occurred at the intersection of Palmer Ave and Sherman Ave on the morning of January 25, 2024, involved a collision between a 2015 Ford Explorer and a 2022 Nissan Rogue. The force of the impact caused both vehicles to veer off the road. The juvenile driver of the Ford Explorer fled the scene on foot but was later apprehended by Teaneck Police.

Dymond T. Fryson, 40, the driver of the Nissan Rogue, suffered life-threatening injuries and was rushed to Hackensack University Medical Center. Unfortunately, Fryson succumbed to her injuries the following day, on January 26, 2024.

Initially, the juvenile was charged with third-degree leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident resulting in serious bodily injury, third-degree endangering an injured victim, and fourth-degree assault by auto resulting in serious bodily injury. However, with Fryson’s subsequent death, the charges have been upgraded to second-degree vehicular homicide and second-degree leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident resulting in death, reflecting the grave consequences of the incident.

The juvenile has been served with the additional complaints and released into the custody of a guardian, pending a first appearance in the Chancery Division, Family Court in Hackensack, NJ. The ongoing investigation underscores the commitment of Bergen County’s legal and law enforcement agencies to seek justice for victims of traffic-related offenses and to hold responsible parties accountable for their actions.
