Karen who coughed on cancer patient gets 30 days in jail, mental evaluation

JACKSONVILLE, FL – Heather Hunter, has agreed to pay a $500 fine and will serve 30 days plus six months of probation after she was recorded coughing on a person while she made a scene over not wearing a face mask inside a Pier One store. She also agreed to get a mental health evaluation and attend anger management classes.

“I think I’ll get real close and cough on you,” she told the woman before coughing on her.

Her husband asked the judge for leniency saying they had fallen on rough times, losing everything they own in a house fire before the incident. She said she was upset about how the incident embarrassed her children, which provoked the judge.

“Her children didn’t create this problem and her husband didn’t, and she talked about how it changed her world and she was getting nastygrams on Facebook and things of that nature and they can’t go to their country club or wherever,” the judge said. “But I have yet to see any expression or a significant expression on her regret about the impact it had on the victim in this case.”
