PRINCETON, N.J. — Terhune Orchards opens its fields today for the annual Kite Day celebration, welcoming families for two days of outdoor fun, farm activities, live music, and colorful kite-flying across a 10-acre pasture.
The spring festival runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, with visitors invited to bring their own kites, purchase one on-site, or craft a “guaranteed to fly” model before launching it into the open skies of the farm.
“Kite Day is a perfect time to explore the farm during our spring festival,” event organizers said. The weekend marks one of the farm’s most popular seasonal traditions, celebrating spring with agricultural activities, family entertainment, and locally sourced food and wine.
Live music will play each afternoon from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., and special performances include the Princeton Morris Dancers on Saturday and live sheep shearing on Sunday, where children can take home a piece of real fleece. Wagon rides, pony rides, and old-fashioned barnyard games like hopscotch and duck races keep children engaged throughout the day.
Wine tastings and fresh farm food round out weekend of spring celebration
Adults can visit the Wine Orchard to sample Terhune’s 18 estate-grown wines under the shade of century-old apple trees. Tasting flights, glasses of wine, and wine slushies are available throughout the weekend, with winery entry included in the event ticket.
Food options include country chili, grilled asparagus, cider donuts, pies, soups, cookies, and Terhune Orchards’ well-known apples and fresh-pressed cider. Dining tents and picnic areas offer space for families to relax between kite-flying and farm exploration.
Children’s playhouses, including the Junior Mechanic Shop and Little Tots Farm Store, are open for hands-on play, and families are encouraged to visit the blooming orchards and freshly planted spring fields.
