LAKEWOOD, N.J. — Residents and visitors in Lakewood have likely noticed smoother roads, new sidewalks, and improved traffic signals as a series of infrastructure projects were recently completed across the township.
The upgrades, which included new streets, traffic signals, sidewalks, pavement, and drainage systems, were carried out over the past several weeks. Despite coinciding with the busy holiday season of Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, and Sukkot, the work was strategically planned to minimize disruptions, with little or no construction in high-traffic areas on days like Erev Yom Tov.
Lakewood Committeeman Meir Lichtenstein praised the collaborative effort among local, county, and state officials, as well as engineers, contractors, and law enforcement agencies, which he said allowed the projects to proceed smoothly. “During the hectic Yom Tov season, we kept on getting calls from both residents and business owners, who were amazed at how smooth the traffic flow was for them and their customers, even as all these projects were underway,” Lichtenstein said. “I would like to thank our partners at all levels for working with us so efficiently to improve Lakewood’s infrastructure with minimal disruption.”
Planning and coordination across Lakewood Township, Ocean County, and the State of New Jersey were key to the successful completion of the improvements, officials said. The township is also preparing for additional infrastructure projects that are expected to begin in the near future.
The recent upgrades aim to enhance safety and accessibility for drivers and pedestrians throughout Lakewood, part of an ongoing effort to support the township’s growing population and evolving infrastructure needs.
