Lakewood Supermarket Inventory a Near Complete Loss Due Power Outage Over Religious Holiday Weekend

LAKEWOOD, NJ – A kosher supermarket in Lakewood was forced to destroy hundreds of thousands of dollars in inventory after a power failure on Friday cut power to the store and spoiled all of the food over the three-day holiday weekend of Shavout (Yom Tov).

The store was closed from sundown Friday night to sundown Sunday, and when owners returned to the business, it was too late, considering the high heat and temperatures over the weekend.

The power outage also affected a nearby pizza place and ice cream store.

A message on the Kosher West website for the Lakewood Westgate location read, “Dear Customer, Due to a power outage over Yom Tov we will have a delayed opening. We regret any inconvenience, and we appreciate your understanding.”
