Teen charged after Wayne Avenue assault escalates into gun and stabbing incident

Gaithersburg, MD – A chaotic confrontation involving more than 20 juveniles on a busy Silver Spring roadway ended with multiple injuries and the arrest of a 16-year-old accused of displaying a firearm during an assault that spiraled into a double stabbing.

Montgomery County police said 3rd District officers responded around 6 p.m. Monday to the intersection of Wayne Avenue and Ramsey Avenue for reports of an assault in progress. Investigators determined that a 16-year-old and an 18-year-old were approached by a group of male suspects, who robbed and assaulted them.

During the encounter, one of the teens produced a knife and stabbed two of the suspects. Police said a third suspect, a 16-year-old from Washington, D.C., was part of the group that initiated the robbery and displayed a gun during the assault.

When officers arrived, they located two juveniles suffering from stab wounds and a third individual who had been injured during the fight. The two stabbed teens were transported to an area hospital, with one listed in serious condition and the other treated for minor injuries. The third victim declined medical treatment.

Police quickly located and arrested the 16-year-old who allegedly displayed the firearm. He was transported to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit and charged with robbery and firearm-related offenses.
