Officials postponed Friday’s free MonmouthNJ 250 concert featuring Little Steven and the Disciples of Soul as heat index values are expected to reach up to 110 degrees over the holiday weekend.
Freehold, NJ – Monmouth County officials have postponed Friday’s MonmouthNJ 250: The Concert at ParkStage because of an expected stretch of dangerous heat that is forecast to grip New Jersey through the Independence Day weekend.
The free concert, originally scheduled for Friday, July 3, will now take place on Friday, July 17, at 5 p.m. County officials, the Count Basie Center for the Arts, and Little Steven and the Disciples of Soul jointly agreed to reschedule the event in the interest of public safety.
Extreme heat prompted postponement
The decision follows an Extreme Heat Warning issued by the National Weather Service for portions of New Jersey, including Monmouth County, with heat index values expected to range between 100 and 110 degrees from Wednesday through Sunday.
“The safety of concertgoers, County and Basie employees, and the artists performing is our highest priority,” Monmouth County Commissioner Director Thomas A. Arnone said.
“With an unprecedented heat wave forecast for the holiday weekend, the County, the Count Basie Center for the Arts, and Steven Van Zandt have, out of an abundance of caution, postponed MonmouthNJ 250: The Concert from July 3 to July 17. We remain committed to providing a safe, enjoyable experience for everyone who attends ParkStage.”
Count Basie Center for the Arts President and CEO Adam Phillipson said organizers made the decision reluctantly.
“Postponing this show was not a decision made lightly, but the forecasts call for potentially record-breaking temperatures and dangerous conditions,” Phillipson said. “We’re grateful for everyone’s understanding and look forward to welcoming everyone back when we reschedule later this month.”
Tickets remain valid
The July 17 lineup will feature Little Steven and the Disciples of Soul, the Jake Clemons Band, Joe Grushecky and the Houserockers with Gary U.S. Bonds, and The Weeklings.
Officials said all previously issued tickets will be honored on the new date. Anyone unable to attend the rescheduled concert should contact Ticketmaster by July 8 to request a refund.
In a separate scheduling change, Low Cut Connie, which had been slated to appear at ParkStage, will instead perform Friday at The Vogel at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available through the Count Basie Center for the Arts.
