GLEN BURNIE, MD – A late-night traffic stop in Glen Burnie led an Anne Arundel County Police officer to a loaded handgun magazine in plain view and a 9mm Glock allegedly concealed beneath the driver’s seat, ending with the arrest of a 22-year-old Virginia man.
The traffic stop occurred at approximately 11:30 p.m. Wednesday near Baltimore Annapolis Boulevard and Sumac Road.
Police said an officer stopped a white 2023 Audi for a traffic violation.
While speaking with the driver, the officer saw a loaded handgun magazine inside the vehicle, according to the department.
Further investigation led officers to a 9mm Glock semiautomatic handgun beneath the driver’s seat.
Police seized the firearm and arrested the driver.
The department identified him as Malachi Ellis Mitchell, 22, of Manassas, Virginia.
Police said Mitchell was charged following the discovery but did not specify the charges in the information released Thursday.
No injuries were reported, and police did not provide additional information about the traffic violation that prompted the initial stop.
The allegations against Mitchell have not been proven in court, and he is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
