Lockdown lifted at Yonkers school amid ongoing police investigation

December 10, 2024

YONKERS, N.Y. — The lockdown at the Robert C. Dodson School was lifted Monday afternoon following an active police investigation near the school, according to the Yonkers Police Department.

The precautionary lockdown, which began earlier in the day, was implemented as police activity unfolded near Shoreview Drive and Beaumont Circle. Authorities emphasized that there was no threat to the school and urged parents to refrain from responding to the building while emergency vehicles remained in the area.

At 2:30 p.m., Yonkers police announced the lockdown had ended and that dismissal procedures would begin shortly. School officials remained in contact with families throughout the incident to provide updates.

The Yonkers Police Department has not yet provided details about the nature of the investigation but stated that it remains ongoing. Residents have been asked to avoid the area until further notice to allow emergency personnel to operate without disruption.

Additional information about the investigation may be released as it becomes available.
