Jersey City shopper turns $1 ticket into $1.6 million Jersey Cash 5 jackpot

JERSEY CITY, NJ – A routine stop at a neighborhood grocery store turned into a life-changing moment Friday night when a Hudson County resident hit the $1,615,930 Jersey Cash 5 jackpot—making it the 53rd top prize won this year.

The winning ticket was sold at National Food Store on Bleecker Street in Jersey City, where one lucky player matched all five numbers—01, 16, 25, 43, and 45—to claim the massive prize. The Bullseye number was 16, and the XTRA number was 04.

Friday’s jackpot marks the 11th time in 2025 the game has awarded more than $1 million to a single winner, further highlighting the high-stakes year for New Jersey Lottery players. Despite frequent million-dollar wins, jackpots exceeding $2 million remain rare, including a record-setting $3.8 million split between Camden and Monmouth counties earlier this month.

Alongside the grand prize winner, 42 other tickets matched four numbers to each win $500. Of those, five included the XTRA feature, tripling their prizes to $1,500.

The Jersey Cash 5 continues to draw attention not only for its growing jackpots but also for its ongoing “Another Millionaire” second-chance promotion. VIP Club members who purchase tickets with the XTRA add-on through November 1 are eligible for weekly drawings where five winners receive $500 and suite-level tickets to the November 30 Jets vs. Falcons game at MetLife Stadium.

During halftime of that game, one of 20 second-chance winners will be randomly selected to win an additional $1 million. Upcoming drawing dates for entry into the promotion are October 21, October 28, and November 4.

Hudson County has previously seen multi-million-dollar wins, including a $2 million-plus split prize in May 2024 and a solo $2 million win in January 2021. Friday’s win adds another major payout to the county’s growing jackpot history.

Key Points

  • A Jersey City player won $1.6 million in the Jersey Cash 5 drawing on Friday
  • The ticket was purchased at National Food Store on Bleecker Street
  • A second-chance promotion offers XTRA ticket buyers a shot at a $1 million bonus win
